Synopsis Climate change coupled with depleting fossil fuels not to mention their price volatility requires us to face up to the challenge and need for sustainable and energy efficient designs. Designers must keep abreast and know more about the implications and duties imposed on them under the MS 1525:2007 Code of Practice. This half-day workshop is specially tailored to focus and emphasise on the fundamentals of MS 1525 that are relevant to the application and understanding of the BEIT software tool. MS 1525:2007 is the Code of Practice for designing energy efficient buildings and includes the application of renewable energy in new and existing non-residential buildings as it: - encourages the design, construction, operation and maintenance of new and existing buildings to reduce the use of energy without constraining creativity, building function and the comfort or productivity of the occupants; and yet dealing with cost considerations.
- provides the criteria and minimum standards for energy efficiency in the design of new buildings, retrofit of existing buildings and methods for determining compliance with these standards;
- provides guidance for energy efficiency designs that demonstrates good professional judgement to comply with minimum standards; and
- encourages the application of renewable energy in new and existing buildings.
