Rationale

Transportation infrastructure has a powerful and significant influence on the social and economic growth of a population, and very often a determinant of modernisation. However, like many other races for modern life, its impact on the natural ecology and ecosystem is often overlooked. Roads and railways that enabled rural folks to seek a better future in bigger cities have also fragmented habitats and wildlife populations – exposing them to unfamiliar landscapes, moving vehicles and poaching – possibly causing its extinction. Having the tools to engineer better infrastructure needs to also be coupled with sufficient knowledge on wildlife and its ecology. This conference will have wildlife ecologists and conservation practitioners share their experience on the legislative requirement, ecological impacts, infrastructure design and landscape planning that could contribute to wildlife conservation efforts.

Objective

The main objective of the conference is to create awareness amongst participants on wildlife ecology and to encourage discussions between wildlife practitioners and engineers to reach innovative engineering solutions that meets both needs.
