Introduction
This course is aimed at engineers who are not familiar with financial accounting. The course will help participants understand financial statements and look out for financial markers important for decision making.
The course starts with the basic principles and underlying concepts of accounting statements. It will show the changes and the inter-link between the various statements when transactions take place with emphasis on the elements of cost and their effects on profitability and cash flow. Through this, engineers will be able to have a deeper understanding of financial movements and where they can contribute to improve financial position and performance. It will highlight key management ratios that engineers ought to pay attention in order to make year-on-year performance appraisal.
To reinforce the practical emphasis and learning, numerous financial examples related to companies will be used as course exercises where participants will be given the opportunities to test their understanding and make cost versus profitability decisions in a safe and control situation.
Objective
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Gain basic understanding and interpret the information in Profit & Loss, Balance Sheet and Cash Flow statements.
- Get overall picture of financial movements as reflected in the various financial statements so that the influence of cost affecting performance can be appreciated.
- Identify key markers when looking at financial statements.
- Be familiar with key management ratios important to make performance appraisal.
