Workshop Synopsis

Moving air interacts with buildings and structures in many complex ways. The field of wind engineering works to understand those interactions and to use that knowledge to improve the quality of the built environment.

Wind Engineering is a multi-disciplinary field requiring knowledge and understanding in the fields of meteorology, fluid mechanics, structural dynamics and statistics. Wind engineers enhance the value of a project by working with architects, engineers and owners to identify and address wind- and airflow-related issues. The result is a more efficient design that ensures a reliable and comfortable building.

This two-day workshop is designed to provide knowledge and understanding to the participants on the wind impact design in several categories, such as wind loading services, wind energy services, environmental services, and special project services. A building tour to the ILHAM Tower, the Gold Award of Special Merit winning project in ACEM Engineering Awards 2017, is included to demonstrate safe and sustainable design of this 274m-tall landmark tower in various wind aspects.

At the end of the workshop, the participants will be able to understand the wind engineering fundamentals, in the fields of meteorology, fluid mechanics, structural dynamics and statistics, related to the safe and sustainable building design. Moreover, they will have the basic knowledge to apply the wind engineering concepts in optimizing their building design.
