Scarcity of land resulted from rapid urbanisation has move the developments into more challenging ground conditions. For most of the civil engineering projects and in many other disciplines such as mining, petroleum, coastal and ocean engineering, etc. where construction over such conditions, the cost of foundation would have significant impact to the overall project cost. Ground improvement has been the alternative for cost effective foundation solutions.

There are several techniques of ground improvement through various mechanism that can be considered. This one-day course focuses mainly on the various ground improvement techniques available in Malaysia, specifying and designing the right ground improvement technique. Case studies of the past project in Malaysia and the region will also be covered in this course.


The main objective of this course is to provide a basic knowledge to the participants on the type of ground improvement techniques available and its limitation. At the end of this course, the participants should be able to gain sufficient knowledge to identify the suitable ground improvement technique and perform ground improvement design to meet the projects requirements.

Target Audience

This course is suitable for young Civil and Structure Engineers who are not only interested in civil engineering design but also eager to learn and gain more knowledge on ground improvement techniques.


English will be used for the course and course materials.

The registration fee is non-refundable. However, substitution of participants can be arranged by informing the organiser one week before the course commences.

Continuing Professional Development / Certificate of Attendance

The course is eligible for 8 CPD hours for Professional Engineers registered with the Board of Engineers Malaysia, and a Certificate of Attendance will be issued subject to full attendance.

Malaysias Green Building Index
Malaysia’s Green Building Index was introduced on 3 January 2009, at the Green Design Forum organized by the Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM).
