The 2nd Edition of the Guide to Fire Protection in Malaysia is published by the Institution of Fire Engineers (UK) Malaysia Branch (IFEM) in association with the Fire & Rescue Department Malaysia (FRDM), Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia (PAM), Institution of Engineers Malaysia (IEM) and Association of Consulting Engineers Malaysia (ACEM). The latest edition of this popular Guide book is an invaluable source of reference to the Uniform Building By-law 1984 and those in the fire safety engineering and fire protection industries as well as building industries. Three of the chapters have been rewritten while some were upgraded through comments and inputs from fire officers, fire engineering professionals and practitioners.
The Smoke Control System using natural (displacement) of power (extracted) ventilation chapter has been revamped with elaboration on design calculations. A new chapter of portable fire extinguishers was re-drafted to cover the latest Fire Classification and Performance-Based design in accordance to the new Malaysian Standard 1539 which is being implemented and enforced by Fire and Rescue Department at the moment. For passive fire protection chapter, the existing 2-dimensional diagrams were replaced with 3-dimensional illustrations to give users a clearer perspective and better understanding of the Uniform Building By-Law.
